Garment washing changes more than appearance. It can affect tone, softness, surface texture, and how premium or vintage a product feels. Garment dye, pigment wash, and enzyme wash each create a different result and each needs a different factory plan.

01 / Garment Dye

Garment dye means the piece is dyed after sewing rather than at the fabric stage. The finished garment often has a richer, more relaxed look and a softer hand feel because the color lands across seams, panels, and trims as a complete unit.

It works well for T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, overshirts, and casual woven products. Thread, trims, shrinkage, labels, and color behavior all need to be compatible with post-sewing dyeing. Slight tone variation at seams or layered areas can be part of the character and should be approved during sampling.

02 / Pigment Wash

Pigment wash creates a more surface-driven, faded, and slightly dusty effect. It is often chosen for vintage, retro, and streetwear collections that need a stronger visual personality than a clean basic finish.

Because the appearance is central to the result, the approved sample should define the acceptable tone range, fading level, and wash standard before bulk. Test rub-off, color variation, wash-off behavior, printing, contrast trims, and direct skin contact during development.

03 / Enzyme Wash

Enzyme wash focuses on touch. It removes surface fuzz and gently softens the fabric, improving comfort and visual cleanliness without creating an aggressive aged effect. Jersey, fleece, French terry, and some casual woven products often respond well when the enzyme intensity suits the base fabric.
